Frequently Asked Questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Customer's call or email our company to request a quote for installation of new flooring or for sand and finish work on existing hardwood flooring. We will set up a time to come to your home, measure the areas needing work, and go over options that are available.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Nick Motto, owner of Motto's Flooring, Inc., has been working in flooring since 1978. He is a member of the National Wood Flooring Association, an instructor at their wood flooring schools, a certified Wood Flooring Inspector and a member of the Better Business Bureau. He carries certifications for engineered flooring, laminate flooring, ceramic tile, and solid hardwood flooring.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Nick has been installing flooring since 1978. He was trained by master craftsmen and was state certified in California. He has owned his own company and been installing flooring in the St. Louis area since 1993.
What types of customers have you worked with?
The majority of our customers are individual home owners.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Take the time to check out your installer. There are so many people who promise a great installation, but with a little checking you can save yourself a lot of heartache and trouble. Flooring is an investment and worth the time it takes to be sure you have a quality installer in your home. Check with the Better Business Bureau, the National Wood Flooring Association, or ask the installer for references.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
What is your budget? If you are installing hardwood flooring, be prepared to allow time for the flooring to acclimate to your home's conditions. When shopping, go to more than one store and compare what the salespeople say. Educate yourself on products available and then listen to your installer as well. Professionals will have advice that is based on years of experience - take the time to consider recommendations.
